Madeira Wine Festival 24 August to 14th September, 2025

This year, the Madeira Wine Festival will take place from the 24th of August to the 14th of September and is believed to be one of the island’s biggest tourist attractions. The event aims to re-create the old viniculture traditions that have existed in Madeira for centuries.
Funchal pays homage to the beauty of the vine through static cultural displays, re-enactments, folklore demonstrations as well as the chance to sample the wonder of the island – Madeira wine. This year’s event also incorporates European Folklore Week (24th – 28th August).

The Blandy’s Madeira Wine Festival, running from the 27th of August to the 5th of September, is a fantastic event celebrating the rich tradition of Madeira wine. Hosted by Blandy’s, a prominent Madeira wine producer, the festival typically features a range of activities, including wine tastings, grape treading, and vineyard tours. It’s a wonderful opportunity to explore the history and craftsmanship behind Madeira wine, enjoy local cuisine, and experience the vibrant culture of the Madeira region. For details and bookings, visit Blandy’s Wine Lodge.

From August 28th to September 14th, the Madeira Wine Lounge at Praça do Povo welcomes everyone to enjoy Madeiran wines, local gastronomy, and live music in a charming setting.

The festival in Estreito de Câmara de Lobos from September 12–13 comprises the traditional treading of the grapes, accompanied by good food and musical entertainment. There will be an ethnic procession which portrays the Grape Harvest Festival followed by an opportunity to recreate the old way of treading the grapes, available for everyone to take part and which attracts many visitors every year.

Entry is free, and for those wishing to experience the treading of the grapes, you can catch either the 3, 7 or 96 Rodoeste Bus to Câmara de Lobos from the company’s depot on Avenida do Mar.

All the events take place in a very festive atmosphere with plenty of entertainment and tradition. So don’t miss it!
